Specialist Studies 1- Special Effects and Film

The specialist study I want to do is Compositing (Post Production, Editor, visual Effects) in animation or film. I think learning Adobe After Effects got me realise how much I enjoy editing and compositing. I found a passion for compositing when I did the business and advertising project with the Illustrators my second year. I loved the process of Compositing. Editing and making effects, colour corrections and make the video look better than original. We had live action opening and ending in our advertisement project and I helped filming along with a group mate who was a photography student. I got more into after effects and wanted to learn more of the software and how I can use it in my work.

For Professional Practice (Employability), will have to learn a lot of skills in order to get the client or company exactly what they want to achieve in their work, learn how to be on schedule and problem solving.
What my clients will be looking for when I work for them is the final outcome, and my job is to make sure I achieve it, and if I cant then I will have to find a way to find out. Learning the program is a huge issue, every company uses different program to another, which means I have to be quick to manage my time in learning the program and also use it in my work and meet the deadline set.

Target audience I haven’t set it yet as it will depend on where employability comes and different client’s work proposals. This will also broaden my range in work and help me learn a lot about how every type of audience varies in thinking and how to make my work relate and grab their attention. For my previous projects I have done my target audiences were mostly teenagers, I tried to keep the animation to its simplistic story, only got to work around different target audiences with Advertising project I did in my second year.

I had to learn to research the target audience style they like and how to visually show it and get their attention. I learnt how the humor changes to different target audiences. We had a target audience of ages 18 to 30. My job in editing and post-production was to make sure there is enough screen time for audience to process the story and information given, but also not too much as it was only a short TV-Spot about a drink. I worked with photography student, which we then had to shoot an intro and outro for our advertisement and also edit and composite into the final work, I really loved using live action with animation and adding effects to make the overall look better.

Managing time is also important, creating time to do tests and send back for feedback and changes. My learning method how I normally work, I started off doing tests (from experience) then reflect-Research-Refine and Final. This was better working, getting feedback from classmates/tutor and then research and find other ways to do, if I cant achieve the style.
