Digbeth- Research Rotoscoping
I looked at Rotoscoping tutorials as an idea for the project..we have a lot of pictures and videos taken of Digbeth, and we was thinking of rotoscoping for our animation as one of the options before we went for the pop-up book idea.
I think the making of the movie A Scanner Darkly shows behind the scenes of how it is made and some challenges the film makers and animators faced.
Digbeth- Inspirations
We was Inspired by the intro séquence/ Title of this animation called 'Le Petit Nicholas' by Kuntzel and Deygas. The duo live and work in Paris, from where they operate their innovative design studio which now encompasses award-winning and globally-recognised works in illustration, animation and product design, including the ubiquitous Caperino and peperone characters, which became the mascots of Parsian hipster mecca colette
Digbeth- Final Edited Interview
Further Edited interviews from the ones we had before, this was to edit the views we wanted and didn't and to fit it all under 3minutes
Digbeth- Maya
Playing around with shapes of buildings to form a cityscape in maya for our animation. This was a test to get the cityscape in maya as a background for the main building e.g vintage shop, car garage..
This was a test my other group mates (jacky and Andy) were also doing and experimenting on other techniques.

Digbeth- ScreenPlay & Animatic

We had to come up with a script as a task from a brief info. then we took the info and wrote a screenplay. Those screenplays were then given to another group to work on the animatic and storyboarding and we were given another group's screenplay, which is why the animatic is different from the screenplay.

Digbeth- Video Storyboard
The picture I took when visited Digbeth I put them together in iMovie and did a storyboard or Digbeth from North of it to the south via Custard Factory.
I wanted to show what was in Digbeth and what you will see when you go there.
Digbeth- Storyboard
The picture below shows our first idea of an old man fishing by the canal. We were suppose to base our animation on the old man.
On our visit and research on Digbeth, we saw a local man who is by the canal everyday same place fishing. He has been living in Digbeth for many years and we thought it would be a great idea for us to get his views of the place.
Unfortunately, we went there few times to interview him but we did not get him. We did not know specific time he comes or if he came those days.
Time was not in our favour and we decided to change our storyline to similar to the first, but instead of interviewing one person, we would ask other locals and people who work there.

Digbeth- Places and Test (after effects and Photoshop)
I wanted to use after effects to try out an alternative option if the maya animation don't turn out the way we wanted or something gone wrong. I used the images I drew and my group mates and edited them on photoshop to take the white off and any other unwanted lines.

Then I had to use the settings for my video will be, and fit in the images in the TV BOX settings ( this is for when playing on different TV or screens some images might get cut off due to the video ratio.
On after effects I used 3D layouts ( turned the images int o 3D) which gives me option to play with the camera movement just like on Maya. I found this worked pretty well and easy to use. The problem was to add different transitions which is the opening and closing of book and pages, This is my first time playing with the software on my own after the workshop I attended.
Digbeth- Places
Place you are most likely going to see in Digbeth
The Custard Factory in Digbeth is the main attraction of the plae. It has many shops around and many art Exhibitions which you can rent out to display your work.
At night you get teenagers coming to party and socialise. It is a great atmosphere around digbeth both times of the day ( day and night)
Digbeth- Places and Characters
We visited Digbeth and interviewed the locals around there. We got around 5 different locals who work and have been going to Digbeth alot. These included A Car Mechanic, Vintage Shop Assistant, Restaurant Owner, Jewellery Shop owner and a Music Shop Owner around Digbeth and Custard Factory where most of these shops are.
We are going to design the places and characters where our animation will take place. The idea is to have every person we interviewed have their own pop up page which we get to hear their views of the place and what it is heading in future.
So for my part is to design the car mechanic and his shop which will be on the animation. Every member in our group is doing different scene/ page. We decided this would be good because we want to achieve different drawing style and feel and to make every page different to the other one.

Digbeth- Research
So for my research I looked on the web map of how much space digbeth covers in Birmingham. This was to give me ideas on where to start and to know which are the main focal areas in Digbeth.
